Student Blogging to increase writing

What I would like to do is get my students to write spontaneously through the blog. I remember a session by Robert Turner about doing this. I just worry that I won't have time to keep up with students blogs if I get it going well. I also think that the site has to be exciting to catch their interest. Probably the key is in the kinds of things you ask them to contribute.
